DIY T-Shirt Stencil Design
Shibobo: To score a goal through someones legs. I made this using very cheap spraypaint and a stencil made out of normal paper. I wanted to use paper because it was light and thus created a soft edge, giving it a grittier more home-made feel.
2 Ducks On A Pond
Weddings can sometimes be like ducks on a Pond, i'm sure there was a lot going on behind the scenes to make for such a wonderful day for all the guests, and of course, the beautiful Bride and Groom.

Soul Sessions Flyer
Love the typography and design on this little flyer. It really does communicate a chilled out, funky, summers day in the park with friends :)

Gelato Resumé in a Paper Cone.
I've just planted my feet in Auckland and plan to stay here for a while. I found a 'Staff Wanted' poster in an Italian Gelato shop and thought it would be a nice little place to work in. Also, it gave me a chance to get a little creative with my Resumé. The cone is just a piece of paper with Waffle cone printed on it and the Resume is a Bi-fold Brochure with a cover letter on the inside front page. If your looking for great Gelato in Auckland check out Casa Del Gelato.

Durban World Class Stadium.
The new Moses Mabhida soccer World cup and athletics stadium in Durban, has stolen the hearts of many a foreign visitor and is undeniably South Africa's most attractive structural icon. It has also been voted one of the world's best World Cup stadiums and was internationally used by Coca Cola to market Africa's first World cup.

Heineken Bottle Design.
Paris, France, July 2010. Sitting in a quadrant of bars, cafés, restaurants and Patisseries, we perched ourselves down facing a fountained round about watching the passers by, strutting through proudly with their trendily clad and adoring partner. It was then i realised, Paris was no place to be spent without love. Mine was waiting for me, a million miles away.
So for the time being I would distract myself with these sleek, minimalist, aluminum, ice cold bottles of extremely overpriced Heineken. Beautiful design. Thoroughly enjoyed beer. :)

World Cup 2010, Tablecloth Design.
Every South African man, woman, child & business embraced the vibe of the World Cup. This Italian restaurant Spiga D'oro, together with a very talented & creative Designer teamed up to Soccerfy their space. Many diners were asking waiters and management for a fresh copy of the paper tablecloth to take back home as a striking souvenir from the tournament. It is beautifully laid out, nicely illustrated, evocative and functional artwork with perfect typography. Just this table cloth alone made the eating experience uniquely special.
Beautiful Typography. Lily Allen.
Watching Lily Allen at the Big Day Out 2009, Adelaide, my attention was constantly drawn to the beautiful, strong typography of her name. Like any good logo, it was perfectly legible
from an extremely far distance. The thickness of the slabs and type, although quite large, gives it a unique character; loud, opinionated, brave and honest. A nice representation of the music.

Hot & Cold
When you're travelling there is nothing worse than trying to figure out which tap is the hot water, adjusting the taps, standing starkers under the freezing cold water wondering if the hot water even works!
This very simple, inexpensive idea was absolutely perfect. And it also added a bit of fun and colour to an otherwise very basic concrete shower wall. This was the bathroom of a tent style accomodation in the Masai Mara village in Kenya.
Legibility makes me happy :)

About this Blog. For The Love Of Design
This is a blog for people who think about design when they should be sleeping, make patterns with food when they should be eating and critique the font when they should be reading.
During my travels over the next year i want to take a close look at the quality of design, posting photos of the best and worst design from Johannesburg to Rome.
Hope you enjoy :)
Daniel.
